A Paper Puppet Show

So we went to see the Go Dog, Go! at the Paul Mesner Puppets and the boys asked if we could buy the dog puppet kits. We did and the fellas spent a day putting them together and making their own puppet show all while I was at work. I'm jealous!

Cub scout!

Jack is officially a Tiger Cub! I won't tell you about having to sit through the terribly long and boring meeting/awards presentation in which Jack earned various beads and bagde things as well as read the instructions for the advancement and retreat of the color guard. (He looks exasperated about reading these instructions, but it is just a bad picture. He thought it was pretty cool to direct the color guard.)

Go, Dog, Go!

When Jack was just beginning to learn to read, I had him read Go, Dog, Go! every night. He was very frustrated with words and I thought if we could just hit the same material over and over, he would start recognizing words. I thought for sure he would hate that book by the end, but he still loves it and when he heard that Paul Mesner's puppet company was doing Go, Dog, Go! He wanted to go! (And yes, I let them wear their Haloween costumes to the show.)

Not only did we see the show, but John took the boy scout troupe to the American Royal Rodeo this week. He told Jack they were going to see some mutton bustin' and Jack was all excited to try it out. After seeing the kids ride the sheep he wants nothing to do with the bustin of muttons.

Happy Halloween

Wyatt has informed me that when he grows up he is going to change his name to Luigi and he knows that will hurt my feelings but he will just stay and live with me so it will be better then.

Wyatt has also decided that Jack will grow up and change his name to Mario but he will not live with us. Wy has decided that we are going to get an orange dog, name him Flynn and his nickname will be Luigi. He doesn't see a problem with the dog being called Luigi and his own name being Luigi because it won't be until his is GROWN UP that he will change his name to Luigi.

"Mommy, look how MUCH candy we got!!!" (I'm glad they think this is a lot - I saw kids who were struggling to hold their buckets and this is the two boys combined...) Believe it or not, the boys were the ones to call a halt to the Trick-or-Treating. "My legs is sooo tired! Can we go home, now?"

The Cartographers Owen

Wyatt is working very hard each day on his penmanship. He practices letters and numbers and stairs. I can't believe how nice his numbers look. And his stairs - well they speak for themselves. The stairs represented here are (start in the lower left hand corner) stairs that John can use to go up to his bedroom, go down to his bed and sleep. Then he can get up and go down to his breakfast. After breakfast, he can go down the outside stairs and get to his car. I have told John to keep this as a map so he can find his bed, breakfast and car.

Not sure what brought it on, but Jack had a burning desire this week to create a map of the world. Look closely, he put in Kansas! (OK, Daddy helped.)
