My favorite quote

"I just wanted to tell you that your kids are the ONLY reason I will have kids when I'm older..."

Words to live by

If it is to be, it is up to me.

When they grow up

Wy shall be a stern policeman.

Jack will be a short fireman.

Or maybe Wy will be a Cowboy.

Like his older brother.

but please, not a Circus monkey, like Mommy.

Me and my sister, my sister and me!

Here we are having a great time at the Mouse Races!

Chopsticks, anyone?

Stephen loves it when the boys practice their piano lessons. He comes over and plays along with them. I have started sitting at the piano with him to give him his own practice time each day.

Office Accessories

Wyatt has a 4 sided 'name plate' that he has labeled and keeps on his desk. I haven't asked him if he will use his 'name plate' in the zombie apocalypse - he doesn't get sarcasm yet.

What's the Buzz?

Tell me what's a happenin'!
*Jack had a dental surgery last week. Why? He had to have a number of rounds of antibiotics before his teeth came in. This can lead to kids having what is called 'highly calcified' teeth. This means their teeth are more sensitive, more prone to cavities and decay etc. AND, the poor kid has developed a severe anxiety regarding the dentist - to the extent that we haven't even been able to get in a cleaning in the last year. We tried different cocktail meds with the dentist and nothing helped settle Jack enough to get things done so we had to opt for 'surgery' which meant general anesthesia. We got everything done in one fell swoop - 2 crowns, cavity repairs, fillings and a cleaning. Now the goal is to keep up with good hygiene at home and to build up a trust between Jack and the Dentist that allows us to get through cleanings. I will say Jack was very nervous about getting the shot for the anesthesia. I wasn't really nervous about anything until I saw the shot kick in. It was really disturbing to watch him succumb to the meds which too effect in about 90 seconds after the shot. It is not something I want to witness again. It was also hard being with him as he was coming out of anesthesia. He did not handle that well at all, though he doesn't remember it. BUT - it is all behind us, he did well and now we can focus on just keeping his teeth clean instead of also dealing with pain.

*Jack earned his Light of Christ medal through Scouts.
We read with the boys nearly every single night. Some nights we read kid books and let the boys read. Some nights we read books like Around the World in 80 Days. Some nights Jack and John have private conversations and I have no idea what is happening. And some nights those two work on Scouting things. This is how Jack worked his way toward his Light of Christ award. He and John put their heads together at bedtime and worked their way through all the paper work, discussions and projects until it was all done.
*The Blue and Gold Boy Scout banquet was last week. Here are the various badges he earned.

*Wyatt has had a few sessions with a speech therapist and has been diagnosed with a thrust (he pushes his tongue between his teeth on the letters c, s & z) and he is not swallowing correctly. The therapist is very impressed with how smart Wyatt is. She repeatedly told me "This boy is really smart." She also told me he scored a year over his actual age on his IQ. Between his age and his smarts she feels they can correct both issues by the end of the school year. (I have been worried about his lisp since he first started talking and now that I am confronted with the thought of Wy talking with no lisp, I find I am not ready for it to happen. Be careful what you wish for, huh?)

*Jack is now an official bike rider. He had been begging to to go the park and ride his new bike. He was pretty nervous about trying to ride without training wheels. He decided he wanted to ride through grass first - just in case he fell. That boy took off through the soccer field and was nearly all the way across the park by the time he slowed down. He rode all around the park and though he had a few tips, he never fell off of that bike! GO JACK!

*Wyatt had a friend over for a play date. They decided that it would be cool to have chickens so they convinced John to give them some eggs from the refrigerator. The boys took the eggs to the backyard and left them out there to hatch.
*Stephen (my little nephew who is staying with us) is suffering from a nasty double ear infection. His first round of meds wasn't working so his doctor has changed the meds. If this round doesn't work the little guy will have to get a shot and be sent to an ENT - which I think means tubes. This is a shot of little Stephen. Whenever this guy gets excited, his arms go out to either side, his hands start clenching and unclenching, his eyes get really big and he raises up on his toes - making it look like he is winding up to take flight. It is really pretty cute and I hope to catch some video sometime!

I actually had these photos of him printed up and then took a knife to cut small slits above and below his left hand. Then I took a lollipop and slipped it into the slits so it looks like he is holding a huge lolli. We gave these out as his Valentine's cards. They were pretty cute. (I did the same thing with the boys' cards.)

Happy Valentine's to you!
