Buried Treasure

It was pretty warm last weekend and the boys were begging to play outside. A few minuets after heading outside they came back in having decided they were going to bury a hidden treaure. First they had to dig a hole. This was no problem. John pulled out some gardenign tools and the fellas went to work.
After they had dug a hole to their liking they headed back in to find a suitable treasure to bury. People, you would not believe how hard it is to find a suitable treasure. I mean one that parents and children can agree on. No, we cannot bury Mommy's jewelry. No we cannot bury the silver cup. I ransacked the house until I found one of those dumpy gold Mardi Gras necklaces and a 'crystal' bead.

Out the door they ran to put their treasure in Wyatt's new front loader. Then there was the argument over who got to dump the treasure into the hole and who would scoop the dirt over the treasure. Everything was finally worked out satisfactorily and a buried treasure is now waiting to be dug up again.

Poor little Bunny.

I was washing dishes one night the other week when Wyatt started chattering all about how his bunny was sick and tired. He kept dragging things into the kitchen but I wasn't paying much attention to him as I was cleaning. I finally turned around to put something away and found him sitting on the kitchen counter.

His bunny was sick, so he had tucked Purple Bunny into his bed. His bunny was tired, so he was reading him a bedtime story. After the story was over, we had to leave the kitchen and turn off the lights to let Purple Bunny get to sleep.

Pinewood Derby

Jack & Wyatt participated in their very first Pinewood Derby race the other week. The Scouts all came home with pinewood blocks to prep for the races. Jack decided on an American Flag theme and got to work. Wyatt felt left out, but no worries - this was the first year the JP2 Scouts invited siblings to participate! John picked up a block at the hobby store for Wy who happily declared his vehicle would be an orange truck.

Here are my fellas at the races. I will admit I was not looking forward to the evening - especially after I saw there were 6 heats with 12 races each. Even though there were 72 individual races the whole thing went rather quickly: after all, each race was over in 2-3 seconds.

Jack was thrilled with his 12th place ranking. He came in 12th out of 13. He didn't care, he placed 2nd in all but two races.

After the races, pleased as punch and already excited for next year's races!

Out with the old and in with the new! Welcome 2012!!!

An explanation?

OK - I haven't really told many little stories about the boys in the last few months like I normally do. I can only say 2011 was a very difficult year for us. I will do my best to get back to truly sharing a slice of the boys' lives with you. May God bless you in great and small ways this year. We love each of you.

Christmas Day

I couldn't believe it but the boys were still asleep at 8:00 Christmas morning. I find it very funny though that as soon as I made that observation, they were both up and ready to go! Poor boys, we make them wait until all the adults are awake and dressed before we move downstairs for presents. I managed to contain them BARELY long enough to get a Christmas morning picture on the steps.

Oh the bounty that Santa brought. Neither one of the boys would show me a smiley face. They were too busy oohing and aahing over their new wii game.

Wyatt was thrilled with his front end loader. He had been telling us for months that he was going to ask Santa for a "front end scoop!"

Jack asked for a guitar. I'm starting to get nervous that he is going to want to add in a set of drums, a saxaphone and I don't know what all else along with lessons for each of them.

Every year Jack asks Santa for a candy cane. What a happy boy to find he had 2 in his stocking!

Wyatt was delighted to get a gingerbread train cookie kit. He spent an afternoon putting it together with his Daddy and Aunt Sue!

I think gingerbread cookies are a lot like tomato soup: you forget how good they are.

Christmas Eve

The boys like to put out carrots and magic reindeer food for Santa's reindeer. The magic food "attracts reindeer from hundreds of miles away" and what reindeer doesn't like a carrot?

Here they are throwing the magic all over a one foot area in the front yard.

Just like millions of other kids the boys like to leave cookies and milk for Santa. They were very interested in making the cookies with Gammie until it was boring - I'd say they helped scoop some dough on the first tray and they ate some cookies within minutes of that same tray coming out of the oven.

These are a few of my favorite pics!

A Visit with Good Ole Santy Claus!

Wyatt sat with Santa and asked for a Nintendo DS with a Mario game for the DS. He also asked for a gingerbread train. Then for good measure he asked Santa to bring a golden hammer for his big brother Jack. He said to Santa "You know my big brother Jack, right?" Santa said he did know Jack.

Jack took his turn to sit with the big man and his big, huge, long list of present requests went right out of his head. Santa said it was alright and suggested Jack write a letter. Jack said he had written a letter to which Santa told him everything would be fine.

Versions on a Nativity

Come on, didn't you know that Thomas, James and Percy were there the night the Christ child was born?

Other cultures believe that Mater and Lightning McQueen attended the birth of our Lord.

Christmas Recital

SO - I had taken a video of Jack playing the piano for his first recital and had to upload it to youtube to convert it to a movie file so I could post it here. I uploaded to youtube and the video/movie is now gone. Actually, I can't find ANY of the mini movies I have uploaded to youtube over the last few months....I'm confused and more than upset that I can't find my movies. Putting my cross-ness aside, Jack did really well at his piano recital. He played Up On The Housetop and We Three Kings. I was very proud of him.

Here's Mr. GQ hanging out with his classmates before the Christmas concert. Can you believe the 'tude he is showing?

Friends

Devlyn spent the weekend with us a few weeks ago. She and Jack asked if they could have a sleep over (they meant that they could sleep together instead of in different places.)They fell asleep holding hands.
